Guthrie answers allegations

Liberty Dispatch posted a story asking questions about Captain Louis Guthrie and allegations surrounding him wrecking the LCSO's dually truck on South Padre Island. We suggested to Guthrie and Sheriff Patterson that the proper way of handling the allegations was to confront them and to tell the truth and get the information to those who pay their salaries (the taxpayers) out ASAP. Captain Guthrie has responded quickly and we will honor his request for an opportunity to clarify the facts. Guthrie has admitted he did have a wreck on the causeway and asked LD to withhold our story until he sends us the accident report Monday. We are yet to hear from Sheriff Patterson. We hope to pursue this story with the cooperation of officials, but we will get to the facts despite any attempts to cover them up. With their help, we will do so in a fair and balanced manner.

Stay tuned for updates.

I hope this does not mean that you will NOT verify what you are told. Henry Patterson accepts what his political friends say at face value and distrust everyone else. It is great you are giving a law officer and the sheriff a chance to tell it like it happened, but please ask for proof.

Good for Guthrie ...... if he comes clean.

The people that act like LD makes stuff up or twists it should be shut up by FINALLY seeing that it is the reaction of the accused in allegations that can twists things.

you guys are a buch of dumb asses. you want to know what happened, the crash was investigated by DPS and South Padre Island PD so give them a call, e-mail, letter requesting reports maintained by their agencies........

I disagree with the previous comment. I appreciate the fact you are givingour local officials an opportunity to tell their story BEFORE checking it out. Trust but verify. It is good reporting and it is fair and ballanced.

I heard someof this thru the "grapevine" and figured we would never know the truth. Thanks for your continued committment despite the heavy handed attack from some.

With all of the stuff swirling around Captain Kelly and the missing guns, nothing would surprise me about people Patterson has hired.

Kelly gets out next summer. Look for him to be rehired as a slush fund beneficiary, in some capacity, including some dba that he'll go by, in the future (for covering up for the rest of their criminal, conspiring, sorry *sses)!! SSDD (same "schtough," different day)

Guthrie was fired from the Harris County Sheriff's Office. How and why was he hired to work in Liberty County?

I've know Louis for twenty years, I've not always agreed with him or his ways. BUT, you have to admit Harris County "fired" him for political reasons "on cinco-de-mayo" because he opposed illegal aliens running amok and the liberal Sheriff Garcia. He should be proud not to work for Garcia.

And I thought they fired him for official oppression and his utter stupidity for jumping another department's call and shutting down a car wash for an hour.

Political reasons? Because he used his police authority to close a legitimate business based on allegations brought forth by his wife.
The allegations were not substantiated and it was a clear cut case of him arrogantly abusing his authority.
The business in question was in Humble and he should have let the proper authorities handle the case like any rational person would have.

Where's the report/update on the accident?

By the way you read Guthries IA, he also misused county vehicles, owned equipment, you read that.

The accident report means nothing more than an accident did happen. Nobody is saying he purposely hit another object! Why was Guthrie driving a county vehicle at that time? Who was in the vehicle with him? I think I know what is going on here!

Well.....It's the weekend and where is the answer from Mr. Guthrie? Did the cooperation stop?

"We hope to pursue this story with the cooperation of officials, but we will get to the facts despite any attempts to cover them up". Where is an update on this issue? Are you being stonewalled? We'd really like to know the facts!
